THE COLLEGE OF MEDICINE PRESENTS‘FOOD ON PRESCRIPTION’, A COLLABORATION WITH ITN PRODUCTIONS INDUSTRY NEWS
LAUNCHING OCTOBER 2019
The College of Medicine and ITN Productions Industry News are producing a news and current affairs-style programme exploring the inextricable link between diet and disease, sorting the fads from the facts.
With two-thirds of adults overweight or obese, the UK is in the middle of an obesity crisis and a lack of consumer knowledge and reliable information on healthy eating is a huge cause for concern.[i]
Food is the most important factor to living well and ‘Food on Prescription’ explores our relationship with food and health from the ground up, from the farming methods that effect the quality of soil and nutrients in crops, to sustainable food production, the rise of veganism, gut health and the benefits of digestive remedies such as herbs and spices.
In this pioneering news-style programme, national newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky invites commentary from those at the forefront of progressive health practices to share their stories. Showcasing how food can cure rather than kill,‘Food on Prescription’ underlines the importance of looking beyond the ‘quick fix’ of prescription drugs to the long-term health benefits of certain foods, herbs and supplements.
The news-style programme will combine a mixture of news items, editorial profiles and studio feature interviews and will launch at the College of Medicine Food Conference. The programme will form part of an extensive communications campaign featuring COM members and professional partners, as well as journalists, writers, bloggers and relevant government departments.
Dr Michael Dixon, Chair, College of Medicine, welcomes collaboration with ITN Productions Food on Prescription.
Vicki Clubley, Head of ITN Productions Industry News said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with the College of Medicine again to produce a programme highlighting the significance of the food we eat on our health. We hope the content will help communicate College of Medicine’s vital messages and gives recognition to those working to make changes to the nation’s health.”
