Changing the conversation about health

Films & articles from past events

resizeannualconfpic2012720xSince 2010, we have run many events and conferences, exploring issues from healthy ageing to herbalism, cancer to compassion.  Here we draw together a selection of material from some of those events.

They range from fascinating talks for the general public to detailed symposia on subjects as diverse as ageing, cancer and new approaches to herbalism.

Watch films and read material from some of these events here.

Robin Youngson on the neuroscience of compassion

Since 2006, consultant anaesthetist Robin Youngson has been developing a particular interest in compassion in healthcare, and drawing from studies, RCTs and new discoveries in neuroscience, explains why there is no such thing as ‘clinical detachment’ and what techniques of mindful compassion can help prevent staff burnout and increase patient health.

In 2012 he gave a talk for us at the University of Westminster. Watch the whole film of his lecture here – and visit Heartsinhealthcare, the website which builds on his vision of compassionate caring

New approaches to IBS

We ran workshops on Irritable Bowel Syndrome for patients and healthcare practitioners in partnership with the IBS network. The day looked at approaches based around a primary care alliance between specialist nurses and expert patients.
