Dr Michael Dixon’s letter to The Times: ‘Toxic NHS is disconnected from patient, staff and community needs’

Ahead of the IPM Congress 2024, the College of Medicine’s Chair, Dr Michael Dixon, has written a letter to The Times newspaper addressing the GP retention crisis the country’s healthcare system is currently facing.

In the correspondence, Dr Dixon says a lack of resources in primary care to employ GPs and over-regulation are just two of the factors that have resulted in a workforce exodus.

The GP calls on the incoming Government, whatever the outcome of the general election, to overhaul the NHS – and overcome the ‘massive vested interests that have allowed a toxic system to exist’.
